PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - For the second consecutive season, Hawks outside hitter Saitaua Iosia has been honored with a place on the COBRA Magazine All-National First Team.

Iosia (Long Beach, Calif.) was a Preseason Player of the Year candidate for the publication and was the only Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference player named to the All-National Team. Last season, Iosia was the COBRA East Region Player of the Year and the Freshman of the Year.

The online publication COBRA Magazine, in its mission statement, honors the success of volleyball players of African, Samoan and Tongan descent and published its fourth-annual All-National Team in its January 2013 edition.

The sophomore outside hitter led UMES to its second straight MEAC title and its best season win total in school history with 28 match victories. Iosia helped the Hawks win the SFC Terrier Invitational and the WVU Golden Horseshoe Challenge before being named the MEAC Tournament Most Valuable Performer after combining for 60 kills, 10 aces and 32 digs in the three matches, including 25 in the title match against Florida A&M.

She finished in the top-35 in Division I in three NCAA categories, including being second in aces per set with 0.69, finishing with 62. Her 5.27 points per set was 12th in D-I this season. She concluded with a team-best 384 kills, averaging 4.27 per game for 33rd in D-I, adding 223 digs and 24 blocks. In 24 matches played, Iosia concluded with 11 double doubles and 21 matches with double digit kills.

UMES has had one other player earn COBRA All-National Team honors in previous years while a number of others have earned honorable mentions. Whitney Johnson was the first UMES player to earn a place, getting a Second Team selection in 2009, while Maline Vaitai (Salt Lake City, Utah), Zoe Bowens and Samantha Chukwura earned All-National Honorable Mention in 2010, with Vaitai also getting the same honor in 2011.
