Nov. 14, 2017

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - For the third straight year, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore will host the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Championships, from Nov. 17-20 in the William P. Hytche Athletic Center. The three-round, eight-team field, single-elimination event will feature the finals televised live on ESPNU and ESPN3 at noon on Sunday Nov. 19.

Quarterfinals begin on Friday (Nov. 17) at 10 a.m. and wrap up with a game at 7 p.m. There will be two semifinal matches on Saturday (Nov. 18) at noon at 3:30 p.m., before the finals on Sunday.

Tickets for the championship are $8 for the day and $20 for a three-day booklet, and can be purchased online at UMESTickets.com or by calling 410-651-6499. All University of Maryland Eastern Shore students are admitted free with ID and the first 250 students on Sunday will receive a free T-shirt courtesy of Hawk Athletics. For those who cannot make the tournament, the MEAC will provide live stats for the event at MEACSports.com

The host Hawks locked the Northern Division's No. 1 seed while Howard, winner of the last two MEAC Championships, secured a birth as the second-seed in the north. The Hawks will take on the four-seed in the south, North Carolina Central at 1pm on Friday. With a win, the Hawks will face the winner of the Florida A&M and Morgan State. The winner of the MEAC tournament earns an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Eastern Shore looks for its third birth to the NCAA Tournament while Howard will look for its 10th.

Divisions will be intertwined in the quarterfinals, with the Northern Division's first and third seeds challenging the South's second and fourth seeds and vice versa.

Local teams, clubs or organizations (any sport or age group) that confirm their attendance by calling 410-651-6499 or emailing gsbradley@umes.edu, will be admitted free for Sunday's championship. These fans are encouraged to wear jerseys, make posters, and show team spirit while showcasing their pride in front of a national TV audience. In addition to the TV exposure, the groups will be judged on overall spirit with the winner getting pizza for its members (up to 50 members max) and a chance to conduct a fundraiser at the Hawk's Homecoming in February.
