Kayongo’s stellar play was rewarded after a pair of strong performances against Morgan State and Coppin State. The outside hitter averaged 3.5 kills per set and earned a hitting percentage of .383. That included a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs over the Bears on Friday, before another nine kills and six digs against the Eagles.

Machado started as setter for both contests, supplying 8.5 assists and 4.2 digs per set. She has now three consecutive double-doubles dating back two weeks, with 26 assists and 11 digs versus Morgan followed by a 25 and 14 versus the Eagles. Machado also added a .500 hitting percentage for the week and four block assists against Coppin State.

The Hawks won both matches in straight sets and claimed the team’s sixth MEAC Northern Division title, their first since 2012.

Samara Brown of North Carolina A&T State was named Co-Player alongside Kayongo, and A&T’s Jasmine Lindor and Florida A&M’s Candelaria Herrera were also selected as this week’s honorees.

Maryland Eastern Shore finishes up the regular season on the road with matches at Norfolk State and Delaware State.
