Hawks picked to finish second in MEAC Northern Division
Coach Rens and the Hawks plan to live up to - and possibly defy - the high expectations of the MEAC preseason poll

NORFOLK, Virginia — The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced their preseason honors on Wednesday, and Maryland Eastern Shore was picked to finish second in the conference’s Northern Division, in a poll voted on by the conference’s coaches and sports information directors.

The Shore amassed a total of 152 points to earn its second place prediction. Three of the 25 voters who participated predicted a better fate for the Hawks this season with a first place vote.

The prediction is an opinion from their major competitors that the Hawks will maintain its standing from the 2016 season, when they finished 10-2 in the MEAC North and reached the semifinals of the conference tournament.

Howard, the defending champion, was once again selected to win the Northern Division. After Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State was predicted to finish third, followed by Hampton, Norfolk State, Coppin State and Delaware State. In the Southern Division, the 2016 runner up Florida A&M were selected as the preseason favorite to win that division.

Maryland Eastern Shore kicks off the 2017 season August 25th against Saint Francis University in Annapolis.
