PRINCESS ANNE, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) volleyball team has announced their schedule for the upcoming 2005 season. The Lady Hawks will open their schedule on the road at the Western NY Invitational on Labor Day weekend. The tournament, hosted by the University at Buffalo, will be held Sept. 2 and 3 and features the host Bulls, Navy, Canisius and Niagara in addition to the Lady Hawks.

UMES will host Manhattan, Delaware State and Coppin State at the Hawk Tournament from Friday, Sept. 30 through Saturday, Oct. 1 to open the home portion of the schedule. For the second consecutive year, the Lady Hawks will once again play host to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round-up. The tournament, being held Oct. 14-16, will pit UMES against MEAC South members North Carolina A&T, South Carolina State, Norfolk State, Florida A&M and Bethune Cookman.

The Lady Hawks' conference slate will see UMES play each member of the North Division (Hampton, Howard, Coppin St., Delaware St. and Morgan St.) twice, both home and away, and each member of the South Division once.

UMES returns three letterwinners and one starter from last year's team, which advanced to the championship game of the MEAC Tournament. Led by senior middle blocker Eriel Jeffery (Highland, Calf./Redlands Valley East H.S.), the Lady Hawks will also play in tournaments at James Madison and Sacred Heart.

The James Madison Tournament on Sept. 16-17 will pit UMES against the host Dukes, Iona and George Washington. The Lady Hawks will take on the host Pioneers, St. Peter's and Rider at the Sacred Heart Tournament on Sept. 23-24. Single matches at Quinnipiac (September 22), at home against American (October 11), at Loyola (October 26), at UMBC (October 30) and at George Washington (November 11) round out the non-conference slate. The Lady Hawks end their regular season at George Washington.
