PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – In their lone home match of the season, Coach Walter Woods and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Women’s team were unable to finish the 2017 campaign on a high note as they were defeated by Monmouth, 7-0, at Hawk Tennis Complex.

With the setback, Eastern Shore wrapped up the season winless (0-14) while Monmouth improved to 5-11 overall.

Maryland Eastern Shore began the match shorthanded as senior Melequa King (Washington, D.C.) was ruled out due to personal reasons; thus, unable to compete in her final matches for The Shore.

The D.C. native ended her three-year Hawk career playing in 37 singles matches and 32 doubles.

As a result, Coach Woods was forced to rearrange his lineups in singles and doubles play.

For the first time this season, junior DaTonya Price (Baltimore) entered as the Hawks’ top singles player where she faced Monmouth’s Alexandra Graff.

Price scored a point in the second set; however, Graff would be too much as she won the match in straight sets (6-0, 6-1).

Newcomer Michal Kittrell (La Plata, Md.) served in the No. 3 spot and also recorded a point before falling to Monmouth’s Kendal Kauffman in consecutive sets (6-0, 6-1).

In doubles play, Monmouth took both matches unblemished, 6-0.

Today’s match also witnessed senior Tearraney Peak (Spartanburg, S.C.) competing in her final matches for the Maroon & Gray.

Over the last two seasons, the South Carolina product played 25 singles matches and 18 doubles.

Coach Woods and The Shore return four Hawks as they continue their quest for a conference title.
