SALISBURY, Md. – Coach Walter Woods and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women’s Tennis Team closed out their six-match rodeo in Salisbury, Md. against the Bowie State (BSU) Bulldogs. The match took place at SU Indoor Tennis Courts on the campus of Salisbury University.

BSU defeated the Lady Hawks, 8-1, and improved to 5-3 overall while Maryland Eastern Shore dropped to 0-7 on the season.

In doubles competition, senior Melequa King (Forestville, Md.) and sophomore Alese Brown (Charleston, S.C.) grabbed UMES’ lone point as they defeated Bowie’s No. 1 team, Amber Peters and Dainese Smothers, 8-6.

Maryland Eastern Shore’s No. 2 squad, Crystal Crook (Clinton, Md.) and DaTonya Price (Baltimore), scored twice against BSU’s Antonique Johnson and Sharaya Dunwell before falling, 8-2.

King dropped her singles match against Peters, 8-4. Price scored once against Dunwell before falling, 8-1. Newcomer Tearraney Peak (Cheltenham, Md.) recorded three points before losing her match to Bowie’s Selena Slaughter, 8-3.



On April 8, the Lady Hawks begin a nine-match road trip against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foe Howard. Match-time is set for 2 p.m.
