PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) softball team announced its early period signee, pitcher Lexus Allen, the announcement came today. Last season, the Lady Hawks finished 14-35 (5-13 MEAC) and showed promise during the 2013 fall season as they went 5-1 overall.

“Lexus (Allen) will be a great addition to our team,” said Sam Douglas, UMES Softball head coach. “She has a dominating presence on the mound and the ability to keep hitters off balance with a strong variety of pitches. She is also able to handle the bat when needed.”

On the field, Allen is a highly-decorated student-athlete as she has won multiple individual awards while recording numerous accomplishments, such as pitching multiple no-hitters, setting-new high school records, and throwing a perfect game in the 2013 Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) World Series. In 2013, Allen appeared in 19 contests (15 starts) while allowing a 2.08 ERA with 160 strikeouts. Offensively, Allen batted .478 with five homeruns and 20 RBIs.

Academically, Allen ranks among the highest in her graduating class at Sci-Tech Harrisburg High School (Harrisburg, Pa.), accumulating a 4.2 grade-point-average (GPA) and recognized for several academic achievements, including National Honor Society, Honor Roll, and Presidential Award for Academic Excellence.

In February, the Lady Hawks travel to Charleston, S.C. to compete in the Charleston Southern University Tournament.
