NORFOLK, Va. – A day after announcing its all-conference teams, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) recognized 90 softball student-athletes for their hard work off the field during the 2016-17 academic year. The announcement came today.

Eight Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks were among the beneficiaries: senior Allison Anderson (Colorado Springs, Colo.); juniors Samantha Casarez (Sylmar, Calif.), Adrienne Guerra (Monrovia, Calif.) and Ciara Walters (Thurmont, Md.); and sophomores MacKenzie Brown (Bayonne, N.J.), Daeshia Jones (Teaneck, N.J.), Kiana Peterson (Willingboro, N.J.), and Sara Jo Whaley (Laurel, Del.).

“On behalf of the conference, I commend our softball student-athletes who have maintained a 3.0 or better grade point average during this academic school year,” said MEAC Commissioner Dr. Dennis E. Thomas. “I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of the institutional and athletic academic support staff, coaches and parents who all played a vital role in the success of student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom.”

The conference recognizes student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average, including sophomores, juniors and seniors, as well as transfer student-athletes who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year.

Yesterday (May 9), Anderson, Casarez, and Guerra were acknowledged for their play on the field as all three Hawks took a place on the All-MEAC Team.

Morgan State had the most student-athletes honored with 13 Lady Bears.

Coach Sam Douglas will look to guide Maryland Eastern Shore back into the postseason as they continue their quest for a conference title next season.
