PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) softball Vanessa Gomez (Belleville, N.J.) won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors, the announcement came yesterday afternoon.

With this award, Gomez has collected her second recognition of the season after being named to the College Sports Madness 2014 MEAC Preseason Second Team All-Conference last month, alongside teammate Morgan King (Danville, Ill.).

The Belleville-native led the Lady Hawks last week, batting a .389 (7-for-18) in games against the University of Rhode Island (URI) and North Carolina Central University (NCCU). Gomez drove in four and scored a pair of runs while going 3-for-3 and a walk against Rhode Island. Defensively, Gomez recorded 17 putouts.

Other notable MEAC honorees included Jamie Schulle (Norfolk State) earning MEAC Pitcher of the Week while teammate Devon Bitler received MEAC Rookie of the Week. Click Here to view the MEAC News Release.
