PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Freshman Trenece Nash (Decatur, Ga.) and junior Aaron Chatman (Waldorf, Md.) have been name the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of February 11. This is the first honor in the career of either student-athlete.

Nash helped lead the UMES softball team to a 3-1 record this past weekend as the Lady Hawks are off to their best start in over 10 years. The freshman hit .583 with three doubles and nine RBI in four games. She finished the weekend 7-for-12, including a 4-for-4 effort with four RBI in UMES’ final game against Saint Peter’s. In the team’s first win of the year, Nash registered the game-winning hit with a single up the middle to give the women the 5-4 victory. She was also a force defensively as she made several impressive snags at third base.

Chatman was the top performer for the men’s indoor track team at the Lafayette/Rider Winter Games-Invitational this past weekend. The Waldorf, Md., native began the day with a first-place finish in the 500m, when he ran a 1:05.80. His time was nearly two seconds faster than the closest competitor. He picked up his second first-place finish of the day when he teamed up with three others to win the 4x400m relay. He ran the second leg of the event and the team finished in 3:18.51.
