DOVER, Del. -- In their season finale, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Softball Team fell to route 13 rival Delaware State (DSU), 3-1, at Hornets' Nest Field. With the loss, UMES ended their 2015 campaign at 7-32 (4-14 MEAC) overall.

All series long, the Lady Hawks were unable to find any offensive rhythm. In this game, they produced a run on two hits. Junior Vanessa Gomez (Belleville, N.J.) and sophomore Alexis Hudson (Laurel, Del.) each generated a hit in the loss.

Gomez opened the contest with a single up-the-middle, followed by a stolen base. Then, Hudson got on base with her speed as she beat out a throw from short. With runners on the corners, Maryland Eastern Shore put on the double steal and Gomez scored to put UMES on the board first after an inning of play, 1-0.

After a scoreless second, the Lady Hornets responded with a two-run third inning to take the lead, 2-1. With the score remaining 2-1 after four, DSU tabbed another run in the fifth with a sac fly from Delaware State's Sandy Hawthorne. UMES continued to battle, but they were unable to rally as they lost, 3-1.

For Delaware State (20-21, 14-4 MEAC), they clinched the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) North Division Title for the second consecutive season with the victory. DSU posted three runs on nine hits, led by Hawthorne's two RBIs. Pitcher Tara Tursellino tossed a complete game as she went seven innings and struck out eight batters in the win.

For the Lady Hawks, they saw lone senior Morgan King (Danville, Ill.) compete in her final collegiate game in the Maroon & Grey. In her illustrious four-year career, she participated in 164 games with 160 starts. The Illinois-native averaged a .306 batting average and produced 147 hits, 93 RBIs, 82 runs, 19 stolen bases and 11 homers.

Next season, the Lady Hawks return 15 student-athletes as they look to compete for a MEAC Title.
