PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – On a day where both squads’ seniors were recognized for their hard work and dedication on and off the field, the Morgan State (MSU) Lady Bears completed the season sweep over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Softball team with a 5-0 victory at Hawk Field.

Before the game, lone senior Allison Anderson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and five Lady Bears received a round of applause from fans, friends, and family for their commitment on the field and inside the classroom. Anderson was joined by her parents, Albert and Carolynn Anderson, and head coach Sam Douglas.

On the field, Anderson and juniors Samantha Casarez (Sylmar, Calif.) and Sarah Maldonado (Carson, Calif.) were the only Hawks to generate a hit against MSU’s Amy Begg.

Morgan State’s Korynna Lara drove in a run before grounding out to second; thus, putting MSU on the board first, 1-0.

In the third, MSU’s Audrianna Alvarez added to the Lady Bears’ lead with a RBI-single to center, 2-0.

Next inning, Morgan State kept the momentum going with a RBI-double from Stormy Zyzyk, 3-0.

MSU’s Kate Vosper put the contest out-of-reach with a two-run homer over the left field fence, 5-0.

For Morgan State (22-14, 11-1 MEAC), they produced five runs on nine hits. In the circle, Begg went seven innings with three strikeouts in the victory.

On April 25, The Shore (10-23, 4-11 MEAC) concludes its nonconference schedule at Drexel. The doubleheader begins at 2 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.

On April 29-30, Maryland Eastern Shore wraps up the regular season in our Nation’s Capital against Howard.

The three-game series starts with a Saturday (April 29) doubleheader at 1 p.m., followed by Sunday’s (April 30) seven-inning contest at noon.
