FAIRFAX, Va. – In their final non-conference matchup of the season, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) softball team tumbled against George Mason University as they lost each contest, 15-0 and 8-0, respectively.

With both losses, the Lady Hawks fell to 7-35 overall whereas the Patriots improved to 21-16 on the season.

In Game One, George Mason held Maryland Eastern Shore to three hits as a team. Seniors Chelsea Alston (Matawan, N.J.) and Cherokee Williams (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and sophomore Emily Diseroad (Manchester Valley, Md.) each registered a hit in defeat.

After scoring two runs in the first, the Patriots tallied six runs in the third to take a commanding lead, 8-0. In the next inning, George Mason’s offensive attack continued as they tabbed seven more runs to win by the final score, 15-0.

For the Patriots, they recorded 15 runs on 16 hits, led by Julia Czarnecki going a perfect 3-of-3 from the plate with two runs and a RBI. Anna Blessing pitched four innings and allowed no runs on three hits as she picked up her eighth victory of the season.

In Game Two, UMES could not find any offensive rhythm as they were contained to only two hits. Sophomores Vanessa Gomez (Belleville, N.J.) and Trenece Nash (Decatur, Ga.) were the only Lady Hawks to collect hits in the loss.

Similar to the first contest, George Mason jumped out to an early lead after the first inning, 1-0. Next, the Patriots rallied three runs each in the second and third innings to push their lead to seven, 7-0. After back-to-back shut outs from Maryland Eastern Shore, the Patriots were able to end the game in the bottom six with a RBI-triple from Brooke Blankenship to win, 8-0.

For George Mason, Czarnecki’s hot streak continued as she went 3-of-4, including two runs scored. Four different Patriots collected multi-RBIs in the win.

This weekend (04/25-04/26), the Lady Hawks travel to Baltimore to face the Lady Bears of Morgan State University (MSU) in their final road series of the season. Saturday’s doubleheader begins at 1:00 p.m. (EST) while Sunday’s single seven-inning contest takes place at noon (EST).
