The Shore Sweeps Doubleheader At Savannah State

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Coach Sam Douglas and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Softball team begin their Spring Break rodeo with a doubleheader sweep over Savannah State (SSU) at Lady Tiger Softball Field.

Eastern Shore (4-10) won game one slugfest, 7-6, while blanking SSU (0-21) in the nightcap, 8-0. As a result, the Hawks swept Savannah State for the first time since 2013.

In game one, The Shore scored seven runs on nine hits. Senior infielder Allison Anderson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the way, going 2-of-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

After one, Savannah State held an early 2-0 advantage.

Top three, Anderson drilled a two-run double down the left field line to tie the contest, 2-2. Moments later, the Colorado native gave Eastern Shore its first lead on a Tigers’ error, 3-2.

Next inning, SSU responded with a four-run inning to regain the lead, 6-3.

Maryland Eastern Shore tallied four runs on five hits in the fifth, capped off by a two-run single to center by newcomer Lindsey Snyder (Brighton, Ill.), 7-6.



Junior Adrienne Guerra (Monrovia, Calif.) continued her dominance in the circle, tossing a no-hitter in three and two-thirds innings of relief work.

In the nightcap, Maryland Eastern Shore produced a season-high eight runs on 11 hits. Guerra tallied three hits while sophomore MacKenzie Brown (Bayonne, N.J.) went 2-of-5 with a RBI in the win.

The Shore pounced on SSU early with three runs in the first, capped off by a two-run double to centerfield from Snyder, 3-0.

Top three, Brown drove home Guerra to extend the lead, 4-0.

Savannah State unraveled later in the contest as the Hawks scored another run on a Tiger miscue in the fifth, 5-0.

With bases loaded in the sixth, SSU walked in three Hawks and ballooned Eastern Shore’s lead to eight, 8-0.

In her second appearance of the day, Guerra kept Savannah State off the board while scattering only four hits in the victory.

Tomorrow (March 22), Eastern Shore goes to Orangeburg, S.C. where the South Carolina State (SCSU) Lady Bulldogs await. Game-time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
