Hawktoberfest events start this week

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland - October is always a busy month for the Hawks and 2017 is no exception as a jam-packed Hawktoberfest schedule begins this week, covering seven sports in action at home and even more on the road.

Starting on Monday, the 16th, The Hawks host the Hall of Fame Golf Outing, a fundraiser for the golf programs featuring dinner with NFL Hall of Famer and Captain of the Maryland Eastern Shore Hall of Fame, Art Shell. Tee times begin at 11 a.m. at the Ocean City Golf Club in Berlin, Maryland.

The following two days, the men’s and women’s collegiate golf teams are in action on the same course as they host the second annual Maryland Eastern Shore Collegiate Golf Challenge, featuring 10 teams between the men’s and women’s division.

On Friday the 20th, it’s Hawk Hysteria as the men’s and women’s basketball teams kick off their season with inter-squad scrimmages and introductions plus other university group performances including the Hawk Cheerleaders. Prior to the hoops squads’ introduction, volleyball takes on Delaware State in a conference match with the Hawks looking to hold onto first place in the MEAC North. Volleyball starts at 6 p.m. inside the Hytche Athletic Center and the Hoops portion of the night starts shortly after the conclusion of the match.

Saturday Oct. 21, both the baseball and softball teams will be in action hosting alumni games. Baseball is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. with batting practice while softball begins at 1 p.m. Registration is still open online at easternshorehawks.com

The same night (Oct. 21), is the inaugural men’s basketball tip-off dinner, a chance to hear from Coach Bobby Collins about the season and two guest speakers, including 16-year NBA veteran, former Maryland Terrapins star and No. 1 overall NBA draft pick Joe Smith as well as Dan Mason, who served as president of CBS Radio, is a member of the Radio Hall of Fame and national sports broadcaster for CBS and NBC.

Hawktoberfest continues the following week when the MEAC North first place Hawks host the MEAC South first place Bethune-Cookman Wildcats in Volleyball action. The match is scheduled for Oct 22 at 1 pm.

That same week, men’s and women’s golf and volleyball play away matches. The week wraps up with women’s bowling kicking off their season at the Bearcat Open in Illinois while the Hawk men’s and women’s cross country teams run in Smyrna, Delaware for the MEAC Championship with the men looking for their fourth title in a row.
