The Hawks are looking for their third straight event win.

Dec. 6, 2013

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's (UMES) women's bowling team will be back in action this weekend for the first time since winning their own tournament, the UMES Hawk Classic sponsored by Brunswick, back on November 17 in Millsboro, Del. This Saturday, they will travel to Hampton, Va. to take part in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division meet No. 2.

UMES, currently ranked fifth in both the coaches and media polls from the National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA), are coming off a pair of first place finishes in their last two meets. UMES won the first MEAC Northern Division meet No. 1 in Dover, Del., compiling a 9-1 record and then kept the success rolling by besting the 16 other teams at the Hawk Classic, including several top-ranked programs to claim the title.

So far this season the Hawks have had several different hot hands as freshman Sara Pelayo (Distrito Federal, Mexico), All-American Mariana Alvarado (Leon, Mexico) and senior Megan Buja (Rockford, Ill.) have all paced the team. The three won consecutive MEAC Bowling Athlete of the Week honors.

The Hawks are 11-1 against conference opponents and are 30-5 overall and 9-1 in MEAC North play this season.

This is the final meet for UMES in 2013. They will return to the lanes January 24-26, 2014 in Reading, Pa. at the Kutztown Invitational.
