PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week were announced today and junior Mike Veverka (Brunswick, Md.) and sophomore Valerie Riggin (Vista, Calif.) have been named the recipients for the week of Nov. 12. The pair recieves the award after solid performances at their respective tournaments this past weekend.

Veverka guided the men's golf team to a fifth-place finish at this weekend's Tiger Invitational in Savannah, Ga. The junior opened the tournament with a team-best score of 82 on Saturday, before he posted a career-low score of 73 on Sunday. His one-over-par finish highlighted the day for UMES on day two, where the squad jumped four spots from the day before. His final line of 155 proved to be enough to land him in the top-25 at 22nd.

Riggin was the top performer for the bowling team this weekend at the MEAC North Division meet in Millsboro, Del. Her final tallies led the Hawks to first-place at the event, where the women went 9-1 combined in two days. Riggin notched a total pin fall of 1,030 with three scores over 210 on Saturday. She bowled in the third spot for UMES in Sunday's baker games, which led UMES to a 4-1 record on the day.
