Johnson earns Second-Team Google Cloud Academic All-American honors

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland -

University of Maryland graduate Jalesa Johnson(Delmar, Delaware) added one more honor to her career as a bowling student athlete when the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America®Division I Men’s and Women’s At-Large teams were announced on June 14.

Johnson was voted to the second team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The at-large teams for the Google Cloud Academic All-America®program include the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis and water polo for both men and women, as well as beach volleyball, bowling, field hockey and rowing for women, and volleyball and wrestling for men.

The Rehabilitation Psychology graduate had a 4.0 Cumulative GPA and was a member of the Richard A Henson Honors Program, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, National Society of Allied Health Honor Society and National Society of Leadership and Success Honors Program. She was a back-to-back winner of the Hawk Athletics Female Student Athlete of the Year award for having the highest GPA in the department. She received the Most Outstanding Student Award for the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions for the Spring of 2018. She made the Dean’s List, the President’s List and received Departmental Distinction. She was a MEAC All-Academic Bowling team honoree, and was a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.


 

 

On the women’s side, 41 of the 45 members of the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America®Division I Women’s At-Large Team achieved at least a 3.90 GPA, with 35 student-athletes compiling a 4.00 GPA (or better) during their undergraduate and/or graduate careers. The 15 members of the first team recorded a 3.99 average GPA.

No less than 38 of the 45 members of the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America®Division I Men’s At-Large Team have at least a 3.90 GPA, with 27 student-athletes maintaining a 4.00 GPA (or better) as either undergraduate or graduate students. The 17 members of the first team (which was expanded due to ties in the voting) have an average GPA of 4.01.

Johnson was the only athlete from a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference member school to be named to either list.

University of Michigan senior swimmer PJ Ransford and StanfordUniversity sophomore swimmer Katie Ledecky headline the teams as the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America®Team Members of the Year for Division I at-large programs.
