WICKLIFFE, Ohio - Junior All-American Mariana Alvarado (Leon, Mexico) became just the seventh bowler in the history of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) to earn NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team honors, the NCAA Women's Bowling Committee announced last night following the conclusion of the 2014 NCAA Championship.

Alvarado, who had a sensational tournament, especially on Friday's Baker game format, joins elite company in her selection, all of which earned All-America honors for the Hawks. The most decorated is Jessica Worsley, who joined the team in 2007 and 2008 and earned Most Outstanding Performer honors the latter. Maria Rodriguez was also a two-time selection (2008, 2011) while Kristina Frahm was the Most Outstanding Performer in 2011 and T'nia Falbo was the same in 2012. Marion Singleton and Kristie Lopez earned the All-Tournament Team distinction in 2007 and 2013 respectively.

Alvarado averaged an impressive 215.6 on Thursday during the team games, which was the third highest on the team. However on Friday, when the double elimination began, Alvarado anchored her team to wins over Fairleigh Dickinson and the nation's No. 1 team Arkansas State. UMES would eliminate both of them. At one point during the match with ASU, Alvarado tossed 14 straight strikes, including four in the game in which the Hawks shot 290.

The rest of the All-Tournament Team included Brooke Wood of Arkansas State, Lindsay Rusch of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Lizabeth Kuhlkin of Nebraska and Most Outstanding Performer Kimi Davidson of Sam Houston State. The Bearkats defeated Nebraska 4-2 to capture their school's first National Championship in any sport.

There is no rest for the bowling as UMES leaves Cleveland to go directly to Reno, Nev. to compete in the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Championships and Intercollegiate Singles Championships. Both Alvarado and Tatiana Munoz (Ibague Tolima, Colombia) will roll singles on Tuesday while the team starts up on Wednesday.
