KUTZTOWN, Pennsylvania -

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore will jump right back into the thick of competition on Friday (Jan. 19) for the KU Invitational at Heister Lanes in Reading, Pennsylvania. The Hawks have not been on the lanes since finished second at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference North No. 2 Meet on Dec 3.

“I am looking forward to kicking off the second half of our season this weekend,” Hawks head coach Kayla Bandy said.  “We want to fill frames, execute shots, follow transition, and let the rest take care of itself.”

The event, hosted by Kutztown University, features 17 nationally ranked teams including nine of the Top 10 in the National Tenpins Coaches Association poll.

Eastern Shore (35-19, 12-4 MEAC) currently stands at No. 8 in the NTCA poll and have received votes in the initial International Bowling Media Association (IBMA) and National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association (NCBCA) polls of the season.

“We have a few new bowling balls, released by Storm and RotoGrip over the winter break, in each player’s bag and I really like the way they have filled a few gaps we had in each student athlete’s arsenal,” she said. “The lane surface at Heister Lanes — where we compete for the Kutztown Invitational — is a high friction lane surface that should play to our advantage.”

Play will begin in the morning with five Baker matches. The Hawks will open with Sam Houston State, followed by North Carolina A&T State, Youngstown State, Tulane and Norfolk State.

“Again, I am really excited to get back on the lanes for the Spring 2018 semester with these student athletes,” Bandy said. “Sounds cliché, but this group of student athletes are an absolute joy to coach and compete with.

“Let’s go Bowling!”
