Hawks finish 3-1 on Day 1 of MEAC North No. 2 in Millsboro

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland -

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore finished Saturday’s Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference No. 2 meet with a 3-1 record and in first place 48 pins ahead of Delaware State.

Junior Alexandra Hernandez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) bowled a 211.50 average over four games to finish in first place individually. Her high came of 247 came in the third game of the day — a 1,015-837 win against Coppin State.

The Hawks opened the day with an 825-819 loss to Morgan State — which they fell to in the first conference meet as well. Senior Jalesa Johnson (Delmar, Delaware) was the lone bright spot in that game with a 211. Johnson averaged a 192.00 in five games to finish fourth overall.

But, after a major regroup, The Shore rebounded with a 956-838 win against the Hornets. In that game, Hernandez put up a 221, Brigitte Jacobs (Freeport, Illinois) posted a 214 and Quianna Macares (Willemstad, Curacao) rolled a 201.

Johnson and Jacobs helped against Coppin State with a 205 and a 207 respectively.


 

 

The Shore ended the day with a 911-868 win against Howard.

Competition will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
