Hawks finish 6th in host event

MILLSBORO, Delaware -

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore dropped all three of its matches on the final day of the Hawk Classic at Millsboro Lanes in Millsboro, Delaware to finish the event in sixth place.

Eastern Shore (29-17, 6-2 MEAC) fell to Sam Houston State (4-1) in the opening match of bracket play, dropped the next to St. Francis Pennsylvania (4-0) and then final one to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference rival Delaware State (4-1).

Junior Alexandra Hernandez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) and classmate Jacqueline Rhoda (Portage Indiana) earned second-team all-tournament honors. Hernandez led the team on Saturday with a five-game average of 209.20 to finish eighth, while Rhoda was close behind in 12th place with a 206.20 average.

Sam Houston State won the event followed by Sacred Heart University and Vanderbilt.

The Shore will be off until the MEAC North No. 2 meet on Dec. 2-3, which they will host at Millsboro Lanes.
