BATON ROUGE, Louisiana -

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore put up a strong qualifying round on Thursday morning at the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championship. The Hawks followed that up by going 1-1 in the evening’s first two rounds of double elimination bracket match play.

The Hawks will bowl again on Friday at 10:45 a.m. eastern against the winner of Wright State and St. Francis (Illinois).

It was a strong start to the evening for The Shore as it topped Grand View 874-845.

That was followed up with a 904-810 loss to Pikeville — where Hawks coach Kayla Bandy was a four-time All-American.

The Hawks averaged 182.6 over the first 12 qualifying matches (2,191 pinfall) and were in fifth place. They then put up a 194.9 average over the final 12 games (2,338 pinfall) for a grand total of 4,539 pins — good enough for a No. 3 seed behind Wisconsin-Whitewater and Wichita State.

The finals will be recorded and shown on CBS Sports Network on May 15.

BOWL.com's BowlTV will provide live coverage of the ITC leading up to the televised finals.
