Hawks go 3-1 at MEAC North No. 3 meet
Feb. 24, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C. -

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore began its final Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference North Division meet on Saturday and finished Day 1 with a 3-1 record with a lone loss coming at the hands of Delaware State.

“Leaving the same day we compete proved to be a terrible idea,” Hawks coach Kayla Bandy said. “We bowled bad all day. We didn’t repeat shots, so it was hard to get the team lined up in an already terrible atmosphere to try to do so at MEAC events.”

The Hawks (62-35, 15-5 MEAC) topped Howard 868-839, got by Morgan State 873-793 and then downed Coppin State 927-781. A 930-922 loss to Delaware State ended the day.

“We were lucky to get through the first three matches with W’s but our luck ended when Delaware State capitalized on their errant mistakes that gave them better results than we got from our mistakes. It was basically ‘who could get luckier’ in the last match. It was a rather unfortunate match to be a part of. Tomorrow we will be better.”

Sophomore Cayla Hicks (Salem, Virginia) averaged a 182.0 over four traditional matches to lead the Hawks. She had a high game of 196 against Morgan State. Alexandra Hernandez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) averaged 180.5 over four matches. Her high of 191 came against Coppin State.

Brigitte Jacobs (Freeport, Illinois) had games of 211 and 2010 against Delaware State and Coppin State respectively.
