The Shore starts Ladyjacks Classic with a bang at 4-0

CONROE, Texas -

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore stands in a deceptive ninth place despite a perfect 4-0 start at Stephen F. Austins Stormin Ladyjacks Classic. The Shore is just 285 total pins behind first-place McKendree University.

The Hawks (55-31, 11-5 MEAC) opened Day 1 of competition with a 949-925 win against National Tenpins Coaches Association No. 5 Vanderbilt, then topped Jackson State (978-903) before they really got rolling. They closed out the day with big scores in wins against Prairie View A&M (1,018-855) and Texas Southern (1,079-855).

Thashaina Seraus (Oranjestad Aruba) had a nice match against the Commodores, putting up six strikes and five spares from her usual anchor position, but got even better as the day went on. She had a fill percentage of 64, a strike percentage of 52, a spare percentage of 39.13 and converted all of her single-pin spares. She hit nine strikes against Jackson State and Texas Southern.

Freshman Cayla Hicks (Richmond, Virginia) struck 60 percent of the time, filled at an 88 percent rate, knocked down 70 percent of her spares and 78 percent of the single-pin variety. Her best games came against Texas Southern with 7 strikes and Jackson State (6).

Alexandra Hernandez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) marked all 10 frames she bowled against both Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern. She filled 88 percent of the time, struck at 44 percent, converted 79 percent off her spares and 88 percent of single pins.


 

 

Malanie Copey (Ontario, New York) and Jacqueline Rhoda (Portage, Indiana) had strong days as well. Copeys fill percentage was 83.33, she struck half the time, picked up 67 percent of her spares and 86 percent of single pins. Rhoda filled 83 percent of the day, struck 43 percent of the time, converted 74 percent of her spares and all her single pins.

Jalesa Johnson (Delmar, Delaware) filled at 75 percent, and knocked down 88 percent of her single pins.

Brigitte Jacobs (Freeport, Illinois) picked up 91 percent of her spares including all of her single pins.

The Hawks will move on to play five traditional matches on Saturday (Feb. 11) and will finish out with best-of-seven bracket play on Sunday.
