Udoji (pictured above) is nearly averaging a double-double this season

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.—UMES basketball players KyRee Jones (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Alexis Udoji (Randolph, Mass.) have been named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on December 24th. Both athletes are receiving the honor for the second time this year.

Jones, a junior starter for the Hawks, registered two 20+ point performances against top-tier non- conference foes Oregon State and Purdue last week. In the game against Oregon State on December 15th, Jones hit five three-pointers, adding one two-pointer and four foul shots for a total contribution of 21 points. He followed that with 23 points against Purdue on the 17th, going 7-for-17 from the field with four foul shots. In seven games and five starts this season, Jones is averaging 17 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.

Sophomore Lady Hawk Alexis Udoji also posted two double digit scoring efforts in game against Oklahoma and Mount St. Mary’s last week. Against Big XII foe Oklahoma, Udoji tallied 13 points, adding seven rebounds and a steal in the contest. She followed that with eight rebounds in a road game against the Virginia Cavaliers, and a 10 point, six rebound performance against Mount St. Mary’s last Saturday. Over the course of the season, Udoji, who has started every game for the Hawks, is just under a double-double average with 9.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.

Both basketball teams have one final contest in 2013 as the men will remain home to take on American University on the 29th while the women will begin conference play at South Carolina State on December 30th.
