Dec. 19, 2016

NORFOLK, Va. – After winning the 2016 FAU Holiday Tournament, sophomore guard Ciani Byrom (Winston-Salem, N.C.) earned the conference’s top weekly honor as she was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week. The announcement came today.

Over the weekend, Byrom guided the Hawks to victories over Saint Francis (Pa.) and Florida Atlantic.

In those two games, the North Carolina native averaged 17 points-per-game (PPG) on 62-percent (13-of-21) shooting from the floor. In the tournament finale, she registered a season-high 25 points while dishing out a game-high five dimes in the victory. As a result, Byrom and teammate Mariah McCoy (Rock Hill, S.C.) were selected to the FAU Holiday All-Tournament Team.

Norfolk State’s Kayla Roberts took home the conference’s defensive player of the week honors.

On Dec. 21, Byrom and the Hawks continue their road swing in Charlottesville, Va. where they will meet the Virginia Cavaliers. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. inside the John Paul Jones Arena.
