PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – With the majority of student-athletes on holiday break last week, action was limited for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore athletics program. There was just one team in action, women's basketball, who fell to Old Dominion in a hard fought match. Although the slow week, several noteworthy events took place, including the volleyball team being selected to play in the Nebraska Regional of the NCAA Tournament.

Let’s take a look at action from this past week:

The Lady Hawks played in one game this week.

UMES fell to Old Dominion, 62-46, last Tuesday night. The team, which shot just 13-of-53 from the field, was benefitted by the performance of senior guard Karona Roach (Bear, Del.). Roach had 14 points and eight rebounds, while shooting 7-of-10 from the charity stripe. Senior Sha-Kiyla Finney (Portsmouth, Va.) had 12 points, while sophomore Shanyce Stewart (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) had seven rebounds and sophomore Jessica Long (Fort Washington, Md.) had three assists.

The Hawks forced the Monarchs into 26 turnovers in the game.

  • MBB - Junior Troy Snyder (Chicago, Ill.) was named to the USF Invitational All-Tournament Team after he posted an average of 12.3 points and five boards in the event
  • BOWLING – Senior Anggie Ramirez (Bogota, Colombia) was named MEAC Bowler of the Week after she posted an average of 216.3 at the 2012 Hawk Classic
  • VOLLEYBALL – The team was selected to play in the Nebraska Regional to play the fourth-seeded Cornhuskers
