RICHMOND, Va. -- Weeks after making a historic run in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Basketball senior guard Shawnee Sweeney (Chester, Va.) was invited to the 2015 College Senior All-Star Game, presented by the Athlete Scholastic Support Initiative Securing Success For Tomorrow (A.S.S.I.S.T.) Foundation. The exhibition will take place Saturday, May 2 inside the Ben Wallace Gymnasium (2208 Westwood Avenue) in Richmond, Va. Tipoff is set for 5:15 p.m. and doors open at 4:30 p.m. Admission is $10.

"It's a great honor," said Sweeney. "A.S.S.I.S.T. was a great support system throughout my high school and AAU career. It would be great to come back and play with others in the area that the program helped in getting to the collegiate level."

Over the past three years, the event has seen talent throughout the East Coast, ranging from New York to North Carolina. A.S.S.I.S.T. provides young student athletes with the opportunity to attend college by researching prospective colleges, providing information of financial resources, and assisting students with the admissions process as well as building athletic and academic resumes.

For more than 10 years, founder Mr. William D. Carter has been successful in assisting 1400 young people in gaining entrance into college.

"Coach (William) Carter had a lot of connections," Sweeney added. "He would put the word out about senior (high school) student athletes in the area looking to sign and provided camps so all levels of college coaches could watch."

Sweeney goes down as one of the great shooters in the program's history. On Feb. 7, she became UMES' all-time three-point scoring leader, a mark previously held for nine years. Shawnee ended with 179 three-pointers made. In four seasons, the Virginia-native played in 107 games with 73 starts while producing 815 points, 296 rebounds, 88 assists and 64 steals.
