Regular season finale brings Delaware State
Feb. 26, 2018

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore will look to finish the regular season on a high note and take that momentum into the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament (March 5-10) in Norfolk, Virginia.

Hawks (9-18, 6-9 MEAC) host Delaware State at 5:30 p.m. on Monday (Feb. 26) in the only matchup of the season.

The Hornets (5-22, 4-10 MEAC) have struggled this season and Kyle Adams took over as the interim head coach before the team’s last contest — a loss to Howard. But they do sport a 2016-17 All-MEAC performer in junior NaJae Pollard.

“We have to show up and play a much better first quarter (than Saturday against Norfolk). That’s for sure,” Hawks coach Fred Batchelor said. “We have to start the game a little better than we did (Saturday) and we have to finish strong and get a good effort at home before we go to the tournament.”

Pollard leads the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in scoring (18.6 per game), is fifth in rebounding (8.2), sixth in field goal percentage (47 percent) and fourth in blocks (1.8). Pollard was the MEAC Rookie of the year as a freshman and was first-team All-MEAC for the 2016-17 season when she led the conference in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage.

Junior Ciani Byrom (Winston-Salem, North Carolina) leads the Hawks in scoring at 10.6 points per game, while freshman Bairesha Gill-Miles (Lexington, Kentucky) leads the team in rebounding with 7.8 per contest to go with a close second 10.5 points per game.
