Hawks host FAMU before road swing

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore has struggled to make shots for most of this season, but on Monday (Feb. 5) it will face a Florida A&M squad that has the same affliction. Game time for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference battle is 5:30 p.m., at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center.

The Hawks (6-15, 3-6 MEAC) are shooting 36 percent from the field, 25 percent from behind the arc and 60 percent from the free throw line this season.

The Ratters (4-18, 2-7 MEAC) are shooting 35 percent from the field 26 percent from three and 62 percent at the charity stripe.

Bairesha Gill-Miles (Lexington, Kentucky) still leads the Hawks in scoring (11.2 ppg) and rebounding (7.4 rpg) despite being a freshman.

Junior Ciani Byrom (Winston-Salem North Carolina) is second on the team in scoring at 9.1 points per game and is averaging a team-best 2.1 assists a game.

Jordyn Smith (Durham, North Carolina) had turned up her play since the conference season began and is averaging 7.9 points and 6.2 rebounds.



Junior center Shalunda Burney-Robinson is becoming a force inside for FAMU, averaging 9.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, while shooting .497 percent from the floor, with a team best 22 blocks. She ranks No. 4 in the MEAC in offensive rebounds (4.0), and free throw percentage (.800); No. 7 in field goal percentage and rebounding; No. 9 in defensive rebounds (4.6); No. 10 in blocked shots, and No. 19 in scoring.

Classmate Florence Ouattara leads the team in scoring (13.8 ppg), assists (2.8 apg), and 3-pointers made (42-of-153).

Following, the home contest, the Hawks will travel to Bethune-Cookman ( and Howard.
