PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – With 6:16 left in the game, the UNCG Spartans held a 53-47 advantage until Maryland Eastern Shore went into another gear as they closed out the contest on a 13-0 run to win, 60-53, inside the William P. Hytche Athletic Center.

With the victory, Eastern Shore improved to 3-2 while the Spartans fell to 4-3 on the season.

Guard Moengaroa Subritzky (Auckland, New Zealand) earned her first double-double of the season, posting 14 points and 11 rebounds. Center Tori Morris (Herndon, Va.) also registered 14 points and collected seven boards in the victory.

UNCG held a six-point lead after Alexus Willey split a pair of freebies, 53-47. Slowly, the Hawks chipped away at the deficit and took the lead after a trey ball from Subritzky, 54-53, with 2:51 left in the contest.

The Shore’s defense in the waning moments would be the difference as they held the Spartans scoreless in the final six minutes. Morris’ layup and a pair of made free throws from sophomores Ciani Byrom (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Keyera Eaton (Winston-Salem, N.C.) would seal the deal for the Hawks.

Other notable Hawk performances included Byrom with an all-around performance. The North Carolina native finished with 12 points, eight dimes, and five rebounds in 32 minutes of action. On the defensive end, Eaton and the Hawks held UNCG's top scorer to under double-figures.

Early on, both squads went back-and-forth. UNCG’s Shanese Harris gave the Spartans a slight advantage after one, 16-15.

Midway through the second, the Spartans’ Alexis Pitchford nailed a jumper and gave UNCG a six-point lead, 24-18. The Shore battled back and tied the contest after Byrom split a pair of freebies, 28-28. As time dwindled down, UNCG’s Jade Scaife made a jumper and free throw and gave the Spartans the intermission lead, 31-29.

For the Spartans, Pitchford had a team-high 11 points while Te’ja Twitty added 10 points. Freshman Nadine Soliman, who was averaging just under 21 points-per-game (PPG), was held to only nine points on 2-of-8 shooting from the floor.

On Dec. 4, Eastern Shore begins an eight-game road trip in Greenville, N.C. where the East Carolina Pirates await. Game-time is set for 1 p.m. inside the Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
