GREENSBORO, North Carolina -

A free throw by junior Keyera Eaton (Winston-Salem, North Carolina) with 21 second left brought the University of Maryland Eastern Shore within two points (62-60) of host North Carolina A&T State Monday night at the Corbett Sports Center.

After a Mikaya Wilson free throw put the Aggies up 63-60, senior Alexus Hicks (Raleigh, North Carolina) had her first attempt at a 3-pointer blocked and her second come off the rim with 3.9 seconds left as A&T escaped their home finale with a 65-60 victory.

The Hawks (9-17, 6-8 MEAC) were smack in the middle of a battle from the beginning of a game that featured nine ties and 14 lead changes.

Eastern Shore shot 36 percent from the field and used aggressive defensive pressure to force 23 turnovers (13 steals) and hold the Aggies to 33 percent from the field. The Shore also held a 32-26 advantage in the paint and scored 21 points off turnovers.

But the Aggies got 36 points from their bench and the benefit of 42 free throw attempts — a high for a Hawks opponent this season. A&T also outrebounded Eastern Shore 55-36 with 37 coming on the defensive end.

Junior Keyera Eaton (Winston-Salem, North Carolina) led the Hawks with 17 points and added four steals, two rebounds and an assist.

Martha Thompson (Bedford Heights, Ohio) scored 15 points on 6-of-15 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds to go with four steals and an assist.

Jordyn Smith (Durham, North Carolina) and Ciani Byrom (Winston-Salem, North Carolina) chipped in eight points apiece. Byrom had seven assists and Bairesha Gill-Miles (Lexington, Kentucky) had seven rebounds.

The Shore will next host Norfolk State for homecoming Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. and finish off the season on Monday (Feb. 26) against Delaware State at 5:30 p.m.
