Senior guard Mariah McCoy (Rock Hill, S.C.) had a team-high 13 points in 32 minutes of action. Center Tori Morris (Herndon, Va.) chipped in 11 points in the loss.

Nearly four minutes into the third, a layup from NCCU’s Morgan Jones gave the Eagles a five-point advantage, 34-29, and forced Coach Batchelor to take a timeout. After the short break, Eastern Shore responded with a quick 5-0 spurt and tied the contest, 34-34, at the 5:07 mark.

For the next five minutes, both clubs exchanged baskets; however, two freebies from the Eagles’ Rodneysha Martin put North Carolina Central ahead after three, 45-44.

Moments into the fourth, junior Shauntesha Bryant (Syracuse, N.Y.) give Eastern Shore the lead back with a layup and free throw, 47-45, but a jumper from NCCU’s Kierona Morton tied the contest for the 12th time, 47-47.

From there on, the Eagles never looked back as they scored 12 unanswered and took a commanding lead, 59-47, with 3:17 remaining. The Shore made a run late, but NCCU made clutch shots down the stretch to win, 68-59.

Maryland Eastern Shore took the early advantage after one, 17-15, thanks to a jumper from McCoy.

In the second, the contest was deadlocked, 21-21, until the Eagles went on a 5-0 run to reclaim the lead, 26-21. The Shore battled back and scored the next six points to take back the lead, capped off by a three-point play from Morris, 27-26. A pair of freebies from NC Central’s Dominique Adams put the Eagles ahead at the half, 28-27.
