PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men’s tennis team was upended by Loyola (Md.) on Saturday afternoon as the Hawks fell to the Greyhounds, 7-0. The loss was the sixth consecutive for UMES to begin the season as the team was swept in both singles and doubles play.

UMES (0-6) saw Kijontray McClay (San Diego, Calif.) register the best day as the junior scored three points at No. 2 singles in a 6-1, 6-2 defeat. Junior Joseph Journey (Detroit, Mich.) fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, while junior Wirlen Elame (Silver Spring, Md.) was blanked at top singles.

McClay and Elame teamed up to lose 8-1 in No. 1 doubles and UMES was unable to field a team in the second doubles match. The Hawks allowed Loyola (6-3) to tally three wins by default in singles and one in doubles.

UMES returns to play on Sunday, March 31 with a MEAC double dip against Coppin State and Norfolk State. The Hawks will begin play at 10 a.m. against Coppin State and will conclude play on the day with a 4 p.m. match against Norfolk State.
