ANNAPOLIS, Md.  – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men’s tennis team dropped its fourth consecutive match to open the year as the Hawks were swept by Navy, 5-0, in a non-conference matchup on Sunday. UMES lost all four of its singles matches and both in the doubles portion.

UMES (0-4) opened the match with freshman Mohin Uddin (Forestville, Md.), who was the first to finish against Navy (11-7). He fell by consecutive scores of 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Uddin was followed by junior Joseph Journey (Detroit, Mich.), who proceeded to lose at No. 4 by the same result. Junior Kijontray McClay (San Diego, Calif.) was blanked at No. 2 and junior Wirlen Elame (Silver Spring, Md.) concluded singles play with a loss at top singles.

McClay and Elame teamed up to fall 8-0 at first doubles, before Uddin and Journey lost by the same score at second doubles.

The men’s tennis team looks to break into the win column in their next match as the Hawks play Friday, March 15 at 4 p.m., at Morgan State.
