Gregory Raad (pictured) placed 15th at the Colonial Classic last week

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.  – The Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week were announced today and freshman Petra Kubesova (Prague, Czech Republic) and junior Gregory Raad (Bel Air, Md.) were named the recipients for the week of October 15. This is the first time either student-athlete has been honored with the award this season.

Kubesova was nothing short of legendary in her first UMES cross country race. The rookie placed second at the Tribe Open this past Saturday. Her second-place finish was just four-tenths of a second from the first-place time as she finished the event in 20:50.98. The time in the 6k proved to be the fastest time ever record by a UMES women’s cross country athlete.

Raad used scores of 81 and 78 to lead the Hawk golf team to a fifth-place finish at the 2012 Robert Morris Colonial Classic in Pittsburgh, Pa., last week. His 15-over-par final score of 159 was the best tally of any Hawk at the event. Raad also tied for the top score in each of his two rounds for the Hawks.
