NORMAN, Okla. – Most recently, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced its Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars and saw the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) men’s golfer Michael Veverka (Brunswick, Md.) named among the 208 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I honorees.

Last season, Veverka received numerous academic honors, such as Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Golf All-Academic Team and MEAC Commissioner’s All-Academic Team. The Brunswick, Md.-native was the lone MEAC representative to make the Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars Team this year.

“Michael (Veverka) is a very good student-athlete,” said UMES Men’s Golf head coach Marshall Cropper. “He’s been among our consistent golfers all season.”

On the course, Veverka was the team’s top golfer over the past couple seasons, earning him multiple team honors, including UMES Golf Coaches Award. The former UMES Golf Most Valuable Player (MVP) recipient also was named to the All-MEAC Golf Team in his final season.

To be eligible, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average (GPA). A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
