PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Fresh off a 24th placing at the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore golf team looks for redemption at the MEAC Golf Showcase in Myrtle Beach, S.C this weekend. The event will be played at the Legends Resort & Golf Club and is scheduled to last two days from April 13-14.

The tournament field features six men’s teams. The event consists of strictly Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference schools including Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Hampton, North Carolina Central, Savannah State and UMES. Head Coach Marshall Cropper has decided to bring five Hawks to compete in the event. UMES’ top golfer this year, Veverka, will make the trip as will juniors Paul Cecil (Severn, Md.) and Christopher Toney (La Plata, Md.).  Freshman Jon Seward (Ft. Washington, Md.) and sophomore Richard Fleming (Upper Marlboro, Md.) look at add solid scores for the Hawks in South Carolina.

The Hawks’ last bit of live action was at the Whiting-Turner Invitational ten days ago. The squad saw Veverka put together a display, where he shot two scores of 76 and one of 77 to finish in 16th amongst a field of 123 strong. Veverka’s act was followed by Cecil, who placed 72nd and Seward’s 45-over-par score to place him in 112th.

Located at, the MEAC Showcase website will feature updated results and a complete recap of the day for both men and women, as well as team pairings and hole assignments.
