PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior Carmen Gurrola (Arleta, Calif.) and junior Michael Veverka (Brunswick, Md.) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of April 8. This is the second time that Veverka has been given the award, while Gurrola collects it for the first time this year.

Veverka was fantastic for the golf team this past weekend at the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational in Gransonville, Md. He began the tournament in 21st with a score of 76 (+4) after day one, before moving into the top-20 with another round of 76 to sit at 19th on Monday. The junior concluded action with a 77 (+5) on the final day to finish 16th with a final score of 229.

Gurrola threw in all three games for the softball team last week. She went the complete-game in the opener against Norfolk State with nine strikeouts, four hits and just one earned run allowed in nine and two-thirds innings. She then threw 4.1 innings of scoreless relief in Saturday's nightcap, before she logged the complete-game win over NSU on Sunday. The senior tallied seven innings, six strikeouts and one walk to help pin the first MEAC loss on NSU of 2013. She finished the week with a 16-to-1 strikeout to walk ratio.
