PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Fresh off a fifth-place finish at the Florida A&M Spring Invitational, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore golf team will hit the road for the second consecutive weekend as they are set to participate in the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational in Grasonville, Md. A total of 24 schools are set for action in the event. UMES looks to build on the fifth-place finishes it has received in each of the past four tournaments.

The field for the invitational is both strong and deep. The past several championship teams will return with Navy, Loyola, Seton Hall and Towson all set for action. UMES is one of five teams making the trip for the first time and is one of two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference schools (Bethune-Cookman) participating. There are several regional rivals ready to compete in William & Mary, Longwood, Mount St. Mary's, Rutgers, Farleigh Dickinson and St. Bonaventure. The outing will also include a handful of teams from New York and Connecticut.

The Hawks saw three fantastic performances at the FAMU Spring Invitational last weekend. All three of the student-athletes will make the trip to Grasonville. Junior Christopher Toney (La Plata, Md.) led UMES to its sixth lowest round of the year, where he shot a 76 (+4). His team-high was closely followed by junior Michael Veverka (Brunswick, Md.), who finished at five-over-par with a 77. Junior Paul Cecil will make the trip as he is UMES' third ranked golfer with an average of 80.27.

UMES is hopeful to receive a good finish from its fourth golfer this week The Hawks were unable to secure a strong fourth score last week as three golfers were unable to break 15-over-par. The team will look to junior Sedrick Bailey (Baltimore, Md.), sophomores Richard Fleming (Upper Marlboro, Md.), Michael Ferguson (Vorhees, N.J.) and Kevin Odell (Snow Hill, Md.) and freshman Jon Seward (Ft. Washington, Md.) and Bryan Martin (Baltimore, Md.) to fill that void.

The final three golfers for the trip have not been assigned by Head Coach Marshall Cropper as of press time.
