PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore golf team has released its 2014 spring schedule, it was announced today. The team will compete in five tournaments across a four-month span that covers four states and two time zones. UMES begins play at the end of February and will conclude the year the first week of May.

UMES opens the spring at the Frito-Lay/Taco Bell Invitational in Philadelphia, Miss, on Feb. 23-24. The Hawks’ action in the event marks the third time in the past four seasons that the team has opened up the New Year in Mississippi. The men did not compete in the event last season, but finished 13th in 2012. Senior Michael Veverka (Brunswick, Md.) placed 30th after he finished with a +16 score of 160.

The Hawks will then take off a month before heading to Grasonville, Md., to compete in the Whiting-Turner Towson Invitational from March 30-April 1. Veverka ended up 16th in the event, while senior Paul Cecil (Severn, Md.) was 72nd, while sophomore Jon Seward (Ft. Washington, Md.) was 112th. After play in the event, the team heads to Tallahassee, Fla., to play in the FAMU Invitational from April 5-6.

UMES will then make its way back to Savannah, Ga., to play at the Crosswinds Golf Club for action in the MEAC Championship from April 25-27. The Hawks shot 324 on the final day to place sixth at the event last season. The regular season will conclude two weeks later in Port St. Lucie, Fla., when the team participates in the PGA Minority Championship at the PGA Golf Club on May 9-11.
