MORGANTON, N.C. -- The University of Maryland Eastern Shore golf team competed in its first three-round tournament of the season, finishing in 11th place at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate.

The team played its second tournament in as many weeks, teeing off at the Mimosa Hills Golf and Country Club. The three-round tournament, with the first and second rounds on Monday and the final round on Tuesday, featured 11 teams and 64 players.

Gregory Raad (Bel Air, Md.) led the Hawks with two rounds of 79 on day one, followed by an 82 on the final day to finish at 240 (+30), taking 58th place. Michael Veverka (Brunswick, Md.) finished just behind him at 59th place, starting with rounds of 81 and 82 and ending strong with a day two score of 79 for a final tally of 242 (+32). Behind Veverka was Paul Cecil (Severn, Md.) at 60th, getting the strongest improvement from the first two rounds of 83 to get 78 on the last round for a score of 244 (+34).

Two Hawks scored their best rounds of the season. After shooting an 87 in the first round, Kijontray McClay (San Diego, Calif.) improved to a 79 later the same day. With an 82 on the second day, he tied for 62th place at 248 (+38). Christopher Toney (La Plata, Md.) improved each round, shooting an 85, 84 and 82 in order to finish at 251 (+41) for 64th place.

Lynn University won the tournament with a team score of 853 (+13), finishing five strokes ahead of Gardner-Webb University. Kristopher Gray of Gardner-Webb and Matt Sizemore of Presbyterian College tied for first in the individual standings with a final score of 203 (-7).

UMES will play in its final tournament season at the Savannah State University Invitational in November.
