Baxter led all Hawks with 13 points against American

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.—Freshmen Hakeem Baxter and Shane Randall, both hailing from (Philadelphia, Pa.), have been named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on December 31st. Randall is receiving the honor for the first time this year, while Baxter has earned the award for the fourth time.

In a home game versus American University, both Baxter and Randall scored double figures in the contest. Baxter, the team’s second-best scorer this season, led all Hawks with 13 points and five rebounds, while also contributing two steals in the game. The freshman player has started every game for the Hawks this season, scoring an average of 14.4 points per game and grabbing an average of 4.4 rebounds per game.

Randall, another freshman from Philadelphia, posted his first double digit scoring effort of his collegiate career, scoring ten points. Randall also added four rebounds and a steal in the contest. In ten games and one start, Shane has earned the highest field goal percentage of all the Hawks at 51.6%. He also has tallied 21 rebounds, four steals, two blocks and two assist this season.

The Hawks basketball team will travel on a four game road trip where they face non-conference opponents Virginia Tech on New Year’s Eve and Mississippi State on January 2nd, before beginning MEAC conference games against Savannah State on January 4th and South Carolina State on January 6th.
