Dec. 2, 2013

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.—Senior Francis Ezeiru (Enugu, Nigeria) and Sophomore Alexis Udoji (Randolph, Mass.) have been named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on December 3rd.  This is the first time that both athletes have been named to this honor.

Ezeiru, who has started every game for the Hawks so far this season, led the team with 10 rebounds and also contributed 10 points in a game at Navy on Tuesday. That performance gives Ezeiru his first double-double in his career as a Hawk, and the first 10 plus rebound performance for any Hawk this season. Through the team’s first five games, Ezeiru is averaging 7.4 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game, while adding three steals and a team-high seven blocks.

Udoji also recorded a double-double for the Lady Hawks in Tuesday’s win against Lincoln University at the Hytche Center. In 31 minutes of playing time, Alexis tallied up 13 points and 15 rebounds, her second double-double this year, while adding two assists, a steal, and a team-high four blocked shots. Over six games this season, Udoji is averaging a double-double, with 10.3 points per game and 10.5 reobunds per game. She is also tied for the team lead in steals with 11, and leads all Lady Hawks with 16 blocks.

Ezeiru and the men’s team will travel to University of Maryland Baltimore County to play the Retrievers tonight at 7pm. Udoji and the Lady Hawks will square off against the Monmouth Hawks tomorrow night in West Long Branch, N.J., with tip-off at 7pm.
