Hawks playing for a different result in round 2 against Howard
Feb. 26, 2017

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore dropped an early-season matchup to Howard University, 74-66, despite the absence of 2016 Mid-Eastern Conference Player of the Year James Daniels from the lineup.

Daniels will not return to the floor for the Bison until next season after undergoing season-ending knee surgery, but Eastern Shore will pay a visit to Burr Gymnasium on Monday for an 8 p.m. matchup in hopes of spoiling the senior night that would have been the final home contest for the high-scoring guard.

The Hawks (11-18, 8-6 MEAC) are coming off a 65-64 victory at Delaware. The Bison (7-22, 4-10) are coming off a loss at Norfolk State.

Bakari Copeland (Decatur, Georgia) still leads the Hawks in scoring (17.2) and rebounding (6.3), has scored in double digits in 26 of 29 games this season and surpassed the 20-point mark 10 times. He scored

Ryan Andino (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) averages 13.7 points per game and leads the conference in 3-pointers made.

Junior Logan McIntosh (Atlanta, Georgia) and Thomas Rivera (Harlem, New York) are a two-headed monster at the point guard spot averaging a combined 13.4 points, 7.4 assists, 4.9 rebounds and .9 steals per game.

Freshman guard/forward Charles Williams has done an admirable job filling in for Daniel. The Richmond, Virginia native leads the team in scoring at 16.3 points per game, good for eighth in the MEAC. Williams has earned six MEAC Rookie of the Week nods, including three in a row Dec. 19 through Jan 2. He has eclipsed 20 points 11 times, including a season-high 37 points in a 73-70 loss against Savannah State on Jan. 28.

Williams led Howard with 17 points in their win at Hytche earlier this season.

Howard leads the all-time series 58-42.

Eastern Shore is looking to strengthen its position in the conference heading into the tournament in Norfolk.

On Dec. 17, the Hawks fell to 1-10 after a 98-49 loss at Michigan. Since then, the Hawks are 10-8, including a three-game winning streak from Jan. 21- 28. Eastern Shore has scored 76.2 points per game over their last 18 contests, compared to 66 points per their first 11 games. The Hawks have experienced several close games over their last 18, going 5-5 in games decided by single digits and staging three double-digit comeback victories.

Games can be heard locally on Fox Sports Radio 960 AM WTGM or on www.EasternShoreHawks.com. Will DeBoer will have the call Saturday from Dover, Delaware on The Shore Sports Network.
