PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Junior T'nia Falbo (Greensburg, Pa.) and senior Tyler Hines (Sicklerville, N.J.) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 30. This is the first time this season that either student-athlete has received this award.
Falbo was the driving force for the bowling team this weekend at the Kutztown Invitational. It was her effort that propelled the women to win the 28-team tournament, as the Hawks defeated Farleigh Dickinson University, 4-1, in Sunday's championship game. The right-hander was spot on for UMES across the three days, particularly on day two, when she averaged a score of 211.63 in six games. On the second day, she knocked down 1,268 pins and posted a team-high of 236 in one game.
Hines provided a pair of efficient outings for the men's basketball team this week as the forward posted an 8-for-15 (53 percent) line from the field in two games for the Hawks. He began the week with an 11 point, six rebound and two block effort in UMES' loss to Bethune-Cookman University, before displaying an eight point, four rebound and one block outing against North Carolina A&T University. In the two games, he posted 19 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks overall.
The men's basketball team returns to action on Monday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m., with a bout against North Carolina Central University, while the bowling team resumes play on Friday, Feb. 3 with action in the Prairie View Invitational.
