Final Stats

NORFOLK, Virginia -

Maryland Eastern Shore mens basketball shot just 20 percent in the first half and couldnt write the ship against Old Dominion, falling 83-44 on Monday night at the Ted Constant Convention Center.

I think the road caught up with us tonight, said Hawks head coach Bobby Collins on his teams third game in four days. We could not hit any open shots. We had looks, we had opportunities. This week we have the chance to go back home and recover with a home game, and hopefully we can bounce back.

The Hawks (2-5) connected for the first bucket one minute in as Tyler Jones (Atlantic City, New Jersey) found Miryne Thomas (Cleveland, Ohio) down low for an easy two. The Monarchs (5-2) tied it over the next couple minutes with a pair of free throws, then a Trey Porter second chance layup put ODU up 4-2 nearly three minutes in.

B.J. Stith converted a three-point play to make it 7-2. At the 15:04 mark, Jones worked a broken play into an easy layup. After a Randy Haynes response on the other end, Ahmad Frost (Cincinnati, Ohio) stepped up for a contested three from the right wing, getting The Shore within 9-7 with 14:24 to play in the first half.

The Monarchs then forced Eastern Shore into an extended cold spell, and the Hawks would only score two points over the next 13 minutes. ODU closed out the first half on a 28-7 run, taking a commanding 37-14 lead into the break.

Eastern Shore shot just 5-for-25 in the opening 20 minutes and 15-for-57 (26.3 percent) for the game.

The Hawks came out firing in the second half, getting an inside bucket from Thomas and another trey from Frost, but the Monarchs came out just as hot and quickly put more distance between themselves and their guests. Michael Hueitt, Jr. connected for several from beyond the arc, part of an ODU reserve attack that outscored Eastern Shore 38-8.

Thomas put together an all-around solid day for The Shore, finishing with 15 points, including a trio of threes, and a season-best eight rebounds. Jones added eight points, while Logan McIntosh (Atlanta, Georgia) contributed four points, six rebounds, and four assists.

B.J. Stith led the way on both ends for Old Dominion, pouring in 14 points with six boards and four steals. Elder brother Brandan narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds, while Hueitt contributed 12 off the bench.

The Monarchs improve to 10-0 all-time against the Hawks, including 3-0 in the Bobby Collins era at Eastern Shore. The Hawks finish November with two wins after going 0-for-the-month last season.

Eastern Shore returns to Princess Anne for a showdown with American University on Saturday. It is the second of just three nonconference home games for the Hawks and only home game until December 31. Tip from the Hytche Center is set for 4 p.m. Saturdays game will be broadcast locally on flagship radio station Fox Sports 960 AM WTGM and online at EasternShoreHawks.com. Pregame coverage starts at 3:45 p.m. with Will DeBoer and Dave Byrd on the call for The Shore Sports Network.
