Another big day from the bench not enough against Rams
Nov. 23, 2016

Box Score

FORT COLLINS, Colorada - Junior Logan McIntosh (Atlanta, Georgia) scored a career-high 15 points and classmate Randell Pickett (Louisville, Kentucky) chipped in 10 points — both off the bench as the Maryland Eastern Shore bench scored 38 of the teams 65 points, but it wasnt enough.

The Hawks (0-5) fell to Colorado State (3-1) by a 76-65 score.

We gave ourselves a chance, Collins said. We played with some effort. We played with some heart. I just have to get all 13 guys when they go in to play with that same effort and heart.

Ryan Andino (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) finished the game 3-of-9 for 10 points, while Bakari Copeland (Decatur, Georgia) was 5-of-16 for 15 points and pulled down four rebounds.

The one guy that we ride and that we look for to make plays for us is Bakari and he just has to do more, Collins said. We are asking him to do more and hes got to do more.

The Rams got a double-double from both Emmanuel Omogbo (11 points, 10 rebounds) and Che Bob (14 points, 11 boards), while J.D. Paige had 13 points, five assists and four rebounds.

Colorado State is a team to be reckoned with, Collins said. Its a very good tough team. They showed us a little bit about being tough, but were going to address those things and we are going to get better. Ive just got to get everybody on the same page.

The Shore shot just 22 percent (4-of-18) form 3-point land, got outrebounded 38-27 and shot 42 percent from the field. But there were positives as the Hawks committed just six turnovers, and shot 69 percent from the free throw line.

I thought it was a team effort, Collins said. I was very happy for Randall Pickett. He came in and knocked down some big shots. He had a phenomenal practice yesterday and I said I had to give him a chance. He proved to me that he can play. Hes a gamer. Hes not a practice player hes a gamer. Thats still a part of us trying to figure out our team.

Is this the Randall Pickett that the coaching staff expects to see from now on as the season continues?

I hope so, Collins said. Its a process with this whole team. On any given night, any of those guys can play. Weve just got to get consistency. Thats what these games are for, to create some consistency, to create some toughness and try to find ourselves. I really think that we are trying to find ourselves as far as how we are going to play. Its very difficult to find that when you are going against high major teams.

The Hawks will be traveling to Ruston, Louisiana on the Thanksgiving holiday and will go three days without playing before facing Louisiana Tech (1-2).

Its not going to be a long drought, Collins said. Its going to be some mental practices. We are going to watch film. We are going to break it down. We are going to find ourselves and get better.

And we have got to go and win one of these games on the road.

Games can be heard locally on Fox Sports Radio 960 AM WTGM or on Will DeBoer will have the call Sunday (Nov. 27) at 5 p.m. eastern on the Hawks Sports Radio Network.
